This class focuses on ways to use different mixed media materials and techniques in your work, such as mark making with all kinds of tools, acrylic paint and ink, collage, image transfer, gel plate printing, stitching, and ways of creating texture.

Work on your figure drawing skills! Easels or benches/boards provided. Bring your own materials - whatever you want to work with, drawing materials, pastels, paint, modeling clay, etc.). These are 2-hour non-instructional figure drawing sessions- from a model. Open to adults only (Must be at least 18 yrs. old.) Our facilitator sets up the model. Otherwise, these are self-directed. Work at your own pace.

BASIC OIL PAINTING with JULIE SULZEN

Students will explore the fundamentals of oil painting with an introduction to materials and by practicing skills of observation, methods of drawing, explorations of color theory, and techniques of brushwork. Utilizing carefully designed still life arrangements, fundamentals of painting such as light, shape, value, and edges will be covered. Demonstrations and discussions are designed to encourage individual progress as well as general painting guidance.

Learn fundamental drawing techniques and expand existing skills in a variety of media to discover individual drawing style. The focus will be on constructing composition and linear perspective with an emphasis on value plane and the use of line. Students will learn how to bring clarity and consistency to their subject matter.

DRAWING FUNDAMENTALS 2: Tone - Fall 2 - 2023

This class will investigate the concepts and methods of tonal (value) drawing. Using still life subject matter, we will explore the fundamental properties of value and a range of media and methods available in depicting value in observational drawing. Basic layout and measuring techniques will be reviewed.

This class is designed to give students a general understanding of basic drawing concepts. The lessons are repeated in successive sessions. However, returning students will be encouraged to develop their skills further within with each lesson. The level of instruction will be based on assessment of each student.

This course will cover a gestural approach to layout, measuring proportions and basic perspective and progress through an investigation of the “surface information” that gives forms and objects their individual qualities. Understanding this “surface information” provides a good foundation for tonal rendering.
