Explore this oldest form of printmaking by carving and printing your own linoleum blocks. This introduction will give students a chance to learn the process of relief printing from start to finish through demonstration, instruction, and guided hands-on exercises with a focus on tools, materials, and technique. Students will then take what they have learned to complete a self-guided image for printing by hand or on the press. This workshop will provide participants with the basis for further exploration of the process at home or in upcoming sessions at OPAL.
Saturday, November 29th, 10am - 4pm
with Karen Sugay
Participants will create a collage of an owl in nature using reclaimed wallpapers, fabrics, buttons, etc. Participants will create a composition sketch and color palette, select some materials, and begin creating the background in the morning. The afternoon will be devoted to creating the owl using one of the patterns provided, putting it all together, and sharing it with the group. Participants may not be done with their piece, and that’s ok! Good art can’t be rushed!
