All levels of experience welcome! In this overview class, each week students will be introduced to various projects using and combining acrylic paint, drawing implements like pencil, ink, markers, and soft chalk and oil pastels, collage, textures, and basic image transfer. We will also cover essential composition, color mixing, mark making, patterns and creating layers. How artists use mixed media is so personal and unique to each person’s preferences and style, and this class is a great way to explore different techniques and find inspiration to create in new and inventive ways.
This class is designed to be repeated.

Required Material List
A note about supplies for this class: You can spend anywhere from $80 to $100+ on things under the mixed media umbrella, as prices vary so much by brand. Some things are absolutely necessary for class, while others are optional. They are clearly separated on the list below. Links are suggestions.
NECESSARY SUPPLIES:
Students are welcome to approach this course with individual sheets of paper (2 sheets per week), or a mixed media sketchbook if desired. I like a combination of both. Since we are building layers of paint and medium, paper has to be heavier than regular sketchbook paper, ideally at least 80-90 lb. paper.
Mixed Media Paper (11 x 14) or bigger, so you can work small or a bit larger. https://www.dickblick.com/products/strathmore-400-series-acrylic-pads/https://www.dickblick.com/products/blick-studio-mixed-media-pads/
Mixed Media Sketchbook (this is optional, we want to include it with other paper. https://www.amazon.com/Ohuhu-Sketchbook-Heavyweight-Hardcoverhttps://www.dickblick.com/products/strathmore-hardbound-500-series-mixed-media-art-journal/
Acrylic Paint, here is where price will impact your supplies most. Brands vary so much in cost, generally associated with quality of pigment and water content. Less expensive paint is usually student grade, while highest quality paint can be very expensive. I personally use Golden, Liquitex and Amsterdam paints, and you are welcome to buy whatever you are comfortable with. Here are a few links to less expensive sets and individual tubes/bottles. Please have black (carbon or ivory), white (titanium), red (cad light or medium), yellow (cad light or medium), blue (ultramarine or primary), plus any of your favorite colors for class.

Brushes (inexpensive brushes are fine, various sizes you like to paint with, plus a 2” flat for glue and covering larger areas).

Palette or palette paper (9x12 or bigger), paper towels or rag Container for water - large yogurt tub or equivalent. Scissors, straight edge or ruler, scraper (an old credit card is fine) or a Catalyst rubber spreader is ideal. Masking tape, glue stick, and PVA glue or Mod Podge.
