S2 - Gelli Plate Printing

  • OPAL 720 CHICAGO AVE Oak Park, IL United States (map)

with Elaine Luther

Join us in learning how to make rich, layered, colorful prints using a Gelli Plate monoprinting pad.  You can use almost anything to make a print - from a feather or a flower to a pair of jeans or even Lego!  You'll also make your own reusable stencils, with no drawing needed.  Choose to print on paper, fabric, or try both! And, do direct printing with fruit, vegetables and household objects on paper or fabric.

This class is designed to be repeated.

Wednesday, 10am - 12pm

Required Materials List:

BRING YOUR OWN PAPER TOWELS!

  • Gel Press or Gelli Plate brand monoprinting pad in the size of your choice, 8” x 10” or smaller is a good size for class.  Can be any size or shape you like.

  • Baby wipes, unscented, 2 packages (these are all for your use)

  • Golden Open Paints - as many or few colors as you like; some that are translucent are nice to have.  Find these at Blick, Michael’s (at least online) and other sellers online.

Suggestion:  Golden Open used to sell a set called the Modern Set, and all the colors in that set work together.  Those colors are: Hansa Yellow or Hansa Yellow Medium; Naphthol Red Light; Quincradone Magenta; Anthroquinone Blue or Phthalo Blue; Phthalo Green; Titanium White.  Any 3-4 of those would work.

Why this brand of paint?  It is a slow drying acrylic.  You need that time in order to pull the print before the paint dries.

IF you already own a lot of acrylic paint, you could do this

    instead:

buy a bottle of Golden Open Medium to mix into your existing paint.

  • Being to Collect:

    Objects to print with:

fresh and/or artificial flowers and plants

    buttons

    bread tabs

    thread

    String
    Tyvek envelopes

Anything that looks interesting that strikes you!  We can try it! Any papers you have or want to collect to print on - old book pages, maps, copy paper, deli wrap, origami paper, circle paper, almost anything can work.  (What does not work well - textured handmade paper, rice paper, construction paper.)

Instructor will provide the use of: brayers, stencils, foam stamps, Saran Wrap, thread, random objects, feathers, papers.

All registrants are asked to bring their own paper towels, hand sanitizer or wipes.
