QR Show
In the digital age the QR code has become a staple of everyday life; in restaurants, bars, museums, classrooms, your doctor’s office, and on the street. We have certainly put them to use at OPAL to link you to our website. There is an element of mystery about the QR code, on its face, each looks nearly identical to the last, while its content on the inside changes dramatically with each one. It is a portal from in-person to digital realms.
The Call: OPAL invites artists to submit a URL or an image of one work (visual art, video, writing, etc.).
OPAL will create a QR code for each work to be anonymously displayed in the gallery, beginning during our Cabinet of Secret Art exhibition this February and running throughout 2025.
A few things to note:
Submitted works can be for sale.
OPAL will handle sales through this QR generated for each work. Your submission does not need to be for sale.
Artists retain actual work and if it is offered for sale will ship in the event it is purchased.
OPAL retains 30% of sales and remits 70% to artist
Suggested donation entry $15./1 work
To initiate this project we’ve invited NY artist Mindy Kombert to exhibit her QR quilt out of plastic.
Mindy Kombert Bio
I am an environmentally conscious artist creating wearable and decorative pieces that repurpose discarded materials. Through my brand, Plastic and Pearls, I incorporate slow stitching, found object assemblage, and mixed media techniques to raise awareness about plastic pollution and overconsumption. My work includes one-of-a-kind jewelry embedded with microplastics, ber art made from salvaged textiles and waste, Trashtrays- small resin trays preserving single-use plastics as artifacts of our time and new art prints. Rooted in the act of plalking (picking up trash while walking), my creative practice transforms waste into art, challenging perceptions of disposability while celebrating the beauty of repurposed materials and their potential to educate and inspire change.
