The Mixed Media Sketchbook

This workshop is a great way to start or revitalize your sketchbook practice. Spend a few hours creating pages that explore your personal artistic voice. Exercises in composition and mark-making and color combinations in various media will get your imagination going and illustrate how beneficial a regular practice of working in your sketchbook can be. Student provide a basic list of supplies plus any supplemental materials you want to work with including collage papers, images and tools. The instructor will provide handmade accordion sketchbooks for each student. Students of all artistic levels are welcome

MATERIAL LIST

  • Paint - bring all the colors you want, but be sure to have basics such as Titanium White, Black, and primary colors. Particularly nice and also inexpensive for mixed media is Blick Matte Acrylic paint in bottles.

  • Brushes - up to 1.5” in flat, round, bright or whatever variety you have and want to bring, and a liner brush for detail. 

  • Spray bottle

  • Pencils, Micron pens, crayons, oil pastels, and any other drawing implements you want to bring

  • favorite collage papers, magazines or newspapers (Jackie will supply a bunch of these so if you don’t have any it’s okay)

  • Palette

  • Painting knives, flat rubber spreader if you have one

  • Alcohol inks if you have them (Jackie will supply these too, so if you don’t have any it’s okay)

  • Matte, satin or gloss medium, either Golden GAC-100 or 200, or Liquitex medium in a bottle - not gel.
