with Dee Grossman
Celebrate Arbor Day and our tree city with a workshop to commune and maybe even hug a tree then go create art from that experience in the studio. This workshop develops our passion for painting and drawing trees in nature with insight and self-discovery, so that as artists we are better able to convey the emotional expressions of trees. The workshop is one of self-discovery.
This workshop will consist of 4 phases/ components.
Phase I. Interact with trees in nature.
How do we interact with trees, so that we learn how to paint them and depict their true emotions?
This is achieved or accessed by relying on our senses. Thus, interacting with trees through touch, listening, feeling and positive thoughts. We meditate/ breath, in preparation of engaging with trees in nature. Then we begin to try and understand what trees are conveying to us.
Phase II, Self- Assessment, what am I sensing or feeling in this moment.
This will help you stay engaged in the process.
We intentionally focus on our breathing and what we are feeling in the moment, as we engage with trees in nature.
If we start to doubt the process, focus on our breathing to bring us back into the moment of engagement with the tree you are interacting with. This process is ongoing until this phase ends.
Phase III: Prepare to return to Studio
Wrap up, everyone gathers in a circle and in 1 to 2 sentences say something about how you felt during the process of interacting with the tree in nature. Did you experience any breakthrough moments?
Phase IV. Studio session, reflect on your experiences good, indifferent, etc. as we begin to create our trees in nature paintings.
