Watercolor Workshop with Tony Armendariz

This workshop is designed for the painter who has at least a basic command of the watercolor medium, the serious beginner to the advanced student. After Tony’s demo, he will work with students individually.

In this workshop students will combine and draw out Dock Boys Top and Bottom. Print out and use the photo Dock Boys and Grayscale as reference. All drawing should be done prior to workshop. Photo references of Dock Boys are attached here, but if you have any issues downloading the files please email oakparkartleague@gmail.com prior to the workshop.

Students should plan to bring their own lunch.

Tony will lecture and conduct a demo in in color utilizing various methods. Techniques discussed will include small scale figurative applications, wood and concrete rendering, water rendering with strong colors and contrasts. Students will then work on their own version from reference supplied by Tony.

Supplies Needed

-#8 and 14 round and 1” flat brushes for most of the painting. Smaller detail brushes or larger brushes are fine

-Pigments you will need: A warm Yellow, Yellow Ochre, Burnt Sienna, Scarlet Lake/Winsor Red, Cadmium Orange, Sepia, Ultramarine Blue, Dioxazine Purple, Payne’s Grey

-Cold Press (preferred) watercolor paper, 140lb. ¼ or ½ sheet. The blocks are good, too. 11 x 14 should be the minimum size. Try to use a professional grade like Arches, Fabriano, Saunders, etc.
