As a child, Deborah was drawn to art when seeing her cousins draw cartoons.
From that time, she knew that this was something she wanted to imitate. In high school and as an art major in college in fine art and graphic design she was focused on being an artist. During this time, a love for watercolor painting developed. In 1981, she received a B.A. in art on an art talent scholarship. She further sought art training taking courses at the American Academy of Art in 1985. In seeking employment, she turned to freelance design and illustration.

In her profession as a librarian she continued to create, make art, and seek prospects to show her work.

Her preferred medium consists of watercolor, pastels, pen & ink, and pencil drawings. Her primary focus is to depict scenarios in life that are endearing to her. A certain look, a laugh, or a mood created by an emotion. Most subject matter consists of portraits, animals, landscapes, and still life. As an artist and creative being, her goal is to recapture the energy and that is witnessed from day to day.

Most recently, she has been working to improve and develop work consisting of painting Plein Air landscapes, figure and portraits from life, and animals and wild life.
