Submission & Exhibitor Guidelines

Submission Registration Form

  • A link to the electronic Exhibition Entry Form can be found on each call page. This form must be submitted with or in advance of your artwork being dropped off.

  • Please review all guidelines before exhibiting your work.

  • Some exhibitions use Submittable for entry. Please follow the guidelines in that form when submitting work.

  • Submission fees are non-refundable and due when dropping off your artwork

Exhibitor Guidelines

  • All artwork submitted to OPAL exhibitions must be hand-delivered or shipped to the Gallery by the set deadline.
    The Gallery is located at 720 Chicago Ave. Oak Park, IL 60302.

  • Deadlines are listed on the individual call page.

  • All artwork must fit within the dimensions specified in the exhibition Call.

  • Artwork must be ready to hang. OPAL does not accept framed artwork with sawtooth hangers or string, please use picture-hanging wire.

  • If rewiring your work is necessary, OPAL will charge a $20 fee that must be paid prior to the inclusion of the piece in the exhibition.

  • Diptychs and triptychs that are joined together with hinges, wired assembly, in a frame or attached together will be considered as one piece of artwork. All others are considered separate works of art.

  • OPAL is not obligated to accept any submissions after the deadline specified in the exhibition Call.

  • OPAL Staff may photograph any artwork for use in promotional and social media purposes.

  • OPAL reserves the right to refuse to exhibit any artwork that we deem offensive or harmful to the general public.

  • OPAL also reserves the right to refuse to exhibit works of art with missing/illegible information on the submission form.

  • ALL ARTWORK MUST REMAIN ON DISPLAY UNTIL THE COMPLETION OF EACH SHOW. NO EXCEPTIONS.

  • Exhibition fees vary, please check individual Entry Forms or Submittable for appropriate fees.

  • All information required about the artwork submitted must be included, including year of completion (date), medium, size (HxW), title, and price.

  • All information must be legible.

  • Your artwork must have a price, even if it is not for sale, as this is used for insurance purposes.

  • Your contact information must be accurate, and your name (not your signature) must be printed somewhere on the back of your artwork.

  • It is recommended that artists carry their own insurance. All reasonable care will be taken with original art.  By entry into OPAL shows, the artist agrees that OPAL will not be held responsible for the loss or damage of any works.

  • You must sign your form. This acknowledges that you understand and agree to OPAL’s submission guidelines.

Art Pickup

  • OPAL DOES NOT HAVE STORAGE SPACE FOR ART.

  • All artwork must be picked up by the date specified in the call for art. You will also receive a reminder email when the pick up date is approaching.

  • If you cannot arrange pickup by the specified date, please call to arrange temporary storage for your piece.

  • Artwork left behind past the deadline date without arrangement of temporary storage will be stored, and be subject to a storage fee of $50 per piece.

  • Any artwork left at OPAL for more than 3 months will be assumed to be the property of The Oak Park Art League.

Art Sales

  • All sales of artwork will be processed by OPAL using our payment systems.

  • Artwork may not be loaned out while on display.

  • OPAL will retain 35% of all sales in the gallery.

  • Artists will receive 65% of the sale in the form of a check within 30 business days after the exhibition comes to an end and all transactions have been accounted for.

  • Processing a sale of an artwork on display without involving OPAL may result in termination of membership, and/or being restricted from submitting artwork to future OPAL exhibitions.
