THIS IS A JUDGED EXHIBITION
Figures & Faces, is an open call group exhibition that celebrates the practice and study of foundational & representational skills needed in drawing, painting and sculpting the human form with competency. OPAL is looking for work that demonstrates the skill of the artist to utilize the model as the building block for their representative art practice. All media will be accepted with the exception of video for this exhibition.
Judge: Gary Schirmer
Gary Schirmer has been a working fine artist for forty years, and a studio-art educator at the college level for twenty-eight years in the subjects of drawing, life drawing, painting, photography and printmaking, as well as a lecturer in Art Appreciation, at the College of DuPage and Joliet Junior College. He works as a commercial artist and illustrator, portrait artist, photo-documentarian, and scenic painter and prop designer/fabricator for the film and television production industries, and for live theater production. He has worked as a freelance curator and judge in fine art venues for twenty-five years, including managing public spaces for art exhibitions.
All work must have been completed within the past 3 years and not exhibited at OPAL before.
Artwork is limited in size to 48” in the largest dimension.
Limit of two submissions per artist.
All work must be ready to hang. No sawtooth hangers will be accepted.
Drop off work: January 4th, 5th and 6th
Exhibition dates: January 11th - February 1st
Opening reception: January 14th - 7-9PM
Pick up work: February 3rd, 4th, 5th, 8th
Cost per submission:
Members: $20 first piece, $15 second piece
Non-members $30 first piece, $20, second piece
